About Us

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde can trace its roots back to 1963, when the MSc Bioengineering degree came into existence. The Bioengineering Unit, as it was known then, moved into our current home, the Wolfson Centre, 106 Rottenrow East, Glasgow G4 0NW, in 1972. Many other Wolfson buildings exist, but ours was the 1st! In 2012, we joined forces with the world-renowned National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics (NCPO) and became the Department of Biomedical Engineering. We have undergraduate programmes and taught postgraduate programmes in both Biomedical Engineering and Prosthetics and Orthotics as well as having a vibrant research environment in the three themes of Rehabilitation Engineering, Cell and Tissue Engineering and Medical Devices
