Mentoring Network

Do you want to learn from a senior bioengineer? Or do you want to support an early-career bioengineer?

If you are interested in signing up, please log into the ECR website to access the mentoring system.

The mentoring committee is working to support Early Career Researchers (ECRs) who are members of the BioMedEng Association by linking mentees with suitable mentors. The committee is directing its support to BioMedEng ECR members from various engineering backgrounds spanning different levels of their professional careers, such as PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, and lecturers. In particular, this scheme is set out so that mentees in their early-career stages can link to mentors (from industry or academia) for advice on career development topics.

We are currently looking for both mentors and mentees who are BioMedEng members and would like to get involved to support ECRs or become a mentee. If so please log in to the ECR web page using your BioMedEng membership details and signup to be a mentor or mentee using the tabs at the top of the screen. Link to mentor and mentee page directly.

Why should you become a mentee? Read Dr Kirsty Scott’s testimony below on how receiving mentorship has helped her progress in her career goals.

“The opportunity to work with a mentor at the start of my career was not only invaluable in guiding my research focus but helped to improve the interpersonal skills that I have found to be crucial while developing my role in academia. The ability to tailor the mentoring experience to areas that I felt I needed more support meant that I could really make the most of the experience and quickly felt my confidence grow in areas where it was previously lacking. Over the years, I have built a long-lasting network with previous mentors and have since started mentoring new ECRs myself.”

Please note the online mentoring system is being tested so please let us know if there are any issues:
